150-1.gif

NOTE: REFER TO NOTES FOR FIG. 3.

(2) The data for Panama, Liberia. Bahama and Philippine represent the trend of Flag of Convenience(FOC). The data for Greece, Cyprus and Malta represent the custom of buying secondhand ships. The data for Japan represent a scare case that ship owners build their own ships and seldom buy secondhand ships, and their ships are sold to other countries during the middle years of their age.
(3) It should be recognized that selling and buying of ships and carrying the flag of convenience are normal practices in shipping.

2.3 Reclassing

FIG.5 shows the distribution of the large bulk carriers picked up in FIG.l and FIG.3 by the classification, by the five year period of their birth and by their careers of reclassing. FIG.6 shows the status of reclassing among the renamed bulk carriers sorted in FTG.3
The graphs carry suggestions as follows.

(1) About 10 ~of the large bulk carries under the age of 5 years have been reclassed and the rate of reclassed ships increases with their ages.
Among the large bulk carriers over 15 years old, reclassed ships become superior in numbers to those to keep original classification.
